An extensive 60-day journey through the Land Down Under is being halted following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a pause. The liner left without her and came back several hours later after the crew became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that guests and staff on the ship were informed that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also published an revised statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

Chronology of Events

The liner initially left the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who generally pay large sums of money to join the cruise - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or underwater exploration.

Family Statement

The child of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "surprised and saddened that the liner left the island after an scheduled outing without my parent".

Via her announcement, she described her mum as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She continued that she desired the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's being".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot day, and she took sick on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"They requested her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the vessel left, seemingly without performing a roll call.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, she passed away, alone."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head affirmed that the company was "working closely with authorities to support their inquiry".

He said that the firm was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had provided its complete assistance to the family.

Shipping Sector Procedures

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty passengers with forty-six crew, according to company information. It was purpose-built to enter remote locations of the nation's shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on land visits.

Incidents of this nature are rare, and cruise ships have protocols to document which travelers are embarking or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship just isn't an option," one expert commented.

Cruise lines regard these procedures extremely carefully and have "clever tech in place to prevent such events from taking place," the expert added.

"This appears to be presumably a shocking - and unfortunate - one-off."
