Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Police stated they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police say preliminary tests show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.

A senior official said the vandalism left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
